Learn By Doing

The primary goal of the Cal Poly Animation club is to create animated short films that are then submitted to local festivals. These animations include both 3D and 2D art. We prioritize learning by doing. We encourage students to jump in anywhere in the creative process (no experience needed) whether it be concept art, 2D animation, digital art, 3D animation, 3D Modeling, rigging, texturing, voice acting, graphic design and more. Sign up for our newsletter for more info or contact us to join today!

Guest Speakers

We occasionally have industry experts, professors, or anyone with valuable animation knowledge to give a presentation to our club. Animation is valuable, for art and technology. Whether it be for design, virtual reality, augmented reality, simulations, or even holograms, this field will continue to rise exponentially in importance. We want to student to be knowledgeable and able contribute to these fields in the future. Please contact us if you are interested in presenting (or promoting) a topic to our club!

Workshops

Our club routinely offers workshops for any student (experienced or new to animation). We typically use Blender for 3D, which is a popular, free, open source 3D creation software. And ToonBoom Harmony for 2D. The emphasis of these workshops is to help students learn critical skills such as drawing, modeling, rendering, sculpting, simulation etc. Please join us if you are at all interested, everyone is welcome!

Tours

We want to give students a first hand look at what it would be like to work for a Animation (or similar) studio. These tours are a great opportunity to see what daily life is like for people in the design industry. We offer tours about twice a school year. If you are interested in giving a tour to our club please feel free to contact us.
